I love how they put the bass up in the mix. Anyone know who the bass player is? Those half note pearls he or she is dropping underneath Peggy are beautiful.

The definitive version of this wonderful song. I weep like a baby every time I hear it.

Shirley Horn was a big fan of Peggy. Her version of this song was clearly inspired by Peggy's, as was Shirley's own sense of musical space and pauses. (Shirley even sang the number in a multiple-artists concert tribute to Peggy Lee.)

This is such a beautiful song and one that will last for ever! I never tire of listening to it. So many thanks for posting. Suprised nobody has posted "I dont want to play in your yard" another song that would never sound half as good sung by someone else! She had such a velvet voice. Great stuff...

No, you are right, I'm the one who got things mixed up in my answer. The person who officially conducted the sessions was Frank Sinatra as you said, not Nelson Riddle. As for Nelson's involvement, he definitely did the arrangements, and he may have been there there with Peggy, Frank and the orchestra during the sessions (for technical suppport and what-not).

I may be wrong but didn't Frank Sinatra conduct on the original recording?
