in my opinion the ipod touch rules, everyone thats comparing it to the iphone are just stupid. if i wanted an iphone i would buy one, the ipod touch is great it doesnt cost a great deal and for the little that it does cost you get a great multi-media device. But i think 8gb is to small i'm going with the 16gb model

Jailbreaking is the process that allows you to run any application it, including the ones that apple have not approved for the App store, such as ones which need to run background processes, like some messenger clients and Last FM which sends information about the songs you're playing in the background. Apple doesn't allow those apps. If you want to install those apps, then that's worth doing. However, I think it will void your warrantee. Hope that help you out.
