Dixie Chicken by Little Feat... with images of the original band, Chickens, Feat albums, posters, and assorted southern vamps, sunbelt cowbodys, anthropromorphisms, and Feat photos ... com'on: give me an "F", "E", "A", "T"!LyricsI've seen the bright lights of MemphisAnd the Commodore HotelAnd underneath a street lamp, i met a southern belleOh she took me to the river, where she cast her spellAnd in that southern moonlight, she sang this song so wellIf youll be my Dixie chicken ill be your Tenessee lambAnd we can walk together down in DixielandDown in DixielandWe made all the hotspots, my money flowed like wineThen the low-down southern whiskey, yea, began to fog my mindAnd i dont remember church bells, or the money i put downOn the white picket fence and boardwalkOn the house at the end of townOh but boy do i remember the strain of her refrainAnd the nights we spent togetherAnd the way she called my nameIf youll be my Dixie chicken ill be your Tenessee lambAnd we can walk together down in DixielandDown in DixielandMany years since she ran awayYes that guitar player sure could playShe always liked to sing alongShe always handy with a songBut then one night at the lobby of the Commodore HotelI chanced to meet a bartender who said he knew her wellAnd as he handed me a drink he began to hum a songAnd all the boys there, at the bar, began to sing alongIf youll be my Dixie chicken ill be your Tenessee lambAnd we can walk together down in DixielandDown in Dixieland, Down in Dixieland

i personally like the solos, even on the "down upon the suwannee river" recording, minding that its 27 minutes long

i saw them about a year ago in a VERY small show, about 100, 150 people, still the best show ive ever seen

Bill Payne? Don't get me started. Little Feat best band ever until Lowell died. I have not listened much to what they have done since 1980. That bloody keyboard player ruined it and the rest didn't have the sense or vision to realise.

saw the band on Monday night at a small gig in front of maybe, 400-500 hardy souls. Some of the band were sat in the pub next door before gig!Pretty good but not the same without Lowell. They extended Dixie to about 20 mins with all this solo stuff..why?! Can someone tell the band to cut it out!

Great song! I saw the band in Michigan a few years back. Bill Payne has stretched this song out to an hour now. The band took its break during it. He's got classical movements in it now.
