(1977) The computer graphics for the first Star Wars film was created by Larry Cuba in the 1970s at the Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL) (at the time known as the Circle Graphics Habitat) at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Well, not quality, but color depth, and even in those movies, they quality was better than SW, heck Star Wars is so cheep, they had to use Digital Imaging, for most of the sets, b/c they were so massive. ILM, has worked on ST7: Generations, and TNG, and I think Voyager, and DS9, I think EdenFX did Enterprise.

The TOS had better quality? I have the original DVD set of all 3 seasons... all the visual effects shots involving ships like the Enterprise have tons of scratches from passes in the optical printer. And ILM only worked on parts of Star Trek 2, all of 3 and 4. and nothing on 1 or 5 - and who know after that.

Yea, but even TOS Trek from 60s was better quality, in color depth, etc. Its b/c Lucas didn't have a big budget, and the funny thing is, ILM, Lucas's company did a lot of the shots for Star Trek, and it still looked better, b/c Paramount had a bigger budget, for the films.

We're talking 1976 when Star Wars was being made... the first Star Trek movie wasn't until 3 years later... and didn't have any computer digital effects, but it did have a larger production budget... while some would consider it 'basically the same time', in tech-reality, it was a far time apart.

How come the graphics always looked really low in contrast, compared to the Star Trek movies of the time?
