SportsBig Brown to Break From No. 1 Post in BelmontBig Brown to Break From No. 1 Post in BelmontThe Associated PressBig Brown will take his shot at Triple Crown history from the inside, drawing the No. 1 post for Saturday's race. The post has produced the most Belmont winners (23) since 1905. (June 4)((Elmont, NY)) NATS: horn blowing. The odds are in for Saturday's Belmont Stakes. As expected, Big Brown is the favorite. ((Tom Durkin, Belmont Park Announcer)) "First choice, Big Brown, two to five." Next on the list, Casino Drive. "The second choice is Casino Drive, seven to two." Thursday officials also drew starting post positions. NATS: dice shaking. There are ten horses in the race. "Post position number one will go to Big Brown." ((Ted Shaffrey, The Associated Press)0 ((Belmont Park)) "This means Big Brown will start the race Saturday right next to the inside rail. "When he won the Preakness he started in about the middle of the track. "At the Kentucky Derby he started here on the outside, which is the spot his trainer was hoping he'd get for Belmont." Trainer Rick Dutrow says Big Brown likes to break away from the pack, which can be harder to do from the inside rail. But he's still very confident in a win. ((Rick Dutrow, Trainer)) "It doesn't matter what post he drew, he's just much better than these horses." Big Brown's jockey says he hopes to work his way quickly out of the inside rail position. ((Kent Desormeaux, Jockey)) "I'm obviously going to have to jockey for position coming from the one hole, it takes me out of a little bit of control, but I'm very well mounted and I'm ready to make history." The second rated horse, Casino Drive will start in the middle of the pack. NATS: Casino Drive, position number 5." His owners say they are happy with the spot. ((Nobutaka Tada, Casino Drive Spokesman)) "Its fine, no problem, any draw is welcome." If Big Brown wins the Belmont Stakes Saturday, he will be the first Triple Crown winner since "Affirmed" won in 1978. Ted Shaffrey, The Associated Press, Elmont, New York

PETA needs to keep their noses out of everybody's business. they get pissed off way too easy over the dumbest crap. It is fun to get in front of a PETA rally and eat a piece of fried chicken in front of them and say that it is sooo good. they get so pissed off and they cant do anything or you can sue the shit out of them

In Secretariat's first race, he got mugged big time in the race as BB did, but Sec never gave up and became the greatest. If that is an excuse that BB couldn't handle being bumped or not enough time between races, then give it up that BB was a great horse.Nothing aginst BB, but Dutrow can kiss off. How is the crow Dutrow?

Dutrow stated BB was in the same class as Secretariat.Still today Sec has the Derby record, many say the Preakness as well (time clock issue withstanding) and has the belmont record. All 3 races ran in same time frame.Dutrow comented Denis of Cork(Belmont, 2nd place) was a pile of shit, which after the race, trainer of DOC loved the outcome.Sorry BB you deserved more, your trainer is making you a big loser.

Winner and still Champion" Secretariat"!!!! Big Brown was suppose to be faster, unbeaten, and a better horse than Big Red. Well folks who crying in there beer today!!!???? The winner, was in fact almost 5 sec. behind the time Big Red had of (2:24in that race! Secretariat was in fact beaten in his career BUT ,never came in LAST. Goes to show ,"You can leade a horse to the racetrack, but,ya can't make him run" Or you know what I mean!!!!

and for the jockey i have a ton of respect for him. he did what was best for the horse. and when it all comes down you have to throw out all the media and money and focus on what is best for the horse. big brown ran out of gas so instead of pushing and risking serious injury he decided to save the horse for another day and just get him home safe.

Big Brown is an amazing horse... all of the horses are. Asking a horse to give that much in 5 weeks is a lot. It is like a human running the 3 hardest marathons in just over a month. Anyone who is a horse person and understands them knows that they have bad days, just like anyone else. Dutrow needs to remeber not to count your chickens before they hatch...

Dutrow said BB had not received his monthly winstrol since mid-April. Thought it wouldn't make any difference. Apparently IT DID! April dose took BB through mid-May KD & Preakness. Then BB was totally off steroids by Belmont (withdrawal symptoms?).Put BB back on steroids (like most American racers), win Breeder's Cup, get named horse of the year. 2009 will be no more steroids.

I agree that this years 3 year olds were weak. Big Brown was the best of the pack. what I don't understand is Dutrow's "logic". Steroids are legal in New York. BB has raced with Steroids in all of his early races. why change your strategy in the biggest race of his career? This was Dutrow's once in a lifetime. He will never get another BB. Especially after this fiasco. And, I think that Desormeaux gave him a bad ride.
