Carving - Ski Lesson

This lesson is an introduction to carving. It should help people, that have not discovered the edge yet to find this feeling. The main goal at this stage is to get the student NOT to turn his feet and slide but carve. To achieve this i am using more inside ski lead and hip counter than necessary as this makes the rolling of the knees easier. Once the student realizes that the skis turn all by themselves these things are reduced to the amount necessary.Instead of getting the student to edge by inclination - "leaning in" i stress the fundamental basic position. As i want to teach a technique which is consistent and works on the blues in the same way as on the black runs. The main ski fundamentals are described in detail in the 3 main lessons of the DVD. Furthermore you will find lessons on skiing the steeps, short turns and 14 additional drills:"Sofa Ski School - From Blue to Black Diamond"84minutes of ski instruction3 reminder cards for the slopesFREE worldwide shippingnow available worldwide on:www.SofaSkiSchool.com.

Hello Klaus,I got the DVD from you last season, and watched it over and over again. Trying to soak up as much information as possible, and trying it out during my skiing holiday. It helped me a great deal, and now there is this voice in my head telling me what to do the slopes! Your DVD is the best money I ever spent on a winter holiday! Thanks a lot, and have a great 2008/2009 winter season, Marcel.

At the carving-beginner stage though I try to achieve that people are able to move in the right direction, which is a fundamental skill. Later they can reduce the up and just cross over. The drill used to achieve this as well as further techniques for more advanced skiers is explained in detail in the main lessons of my DVD. Have a great winter!

Thank you for your comment and question! The lesson posted is an introduction to carving. I tried to exaggerate the up and forward movement in the initiation phase of the turn, as this makes it easier to start a turn without turning your feet or body. You could also initiate by just moving your hip forward (crossing over) and releasing the edges.

Klaus - you rip - period. A question though - I see after you complete your turn and are transitioning into the next turn, you extend your legs and are almost at a standing position. I see other guys stay really low during this point, so that their greatest leg extension is at the apex of the turn. What's the best way?

Thank you for your feedback! It is of course always better if you can get quality ski instruction on snow and you will have no trouble finding that in Austria. As your time on snow is probably limited though i think it is a good idea to get some work done before the holidays. Like this you will be able to learn faster and get the most out of your ski trip.

Hello Klaus,Great instruction, I want to learn this so bad you would have no idea. Anyway, can you tell me if you can learn this in Austria in a ski school? Or can you teach it yourself with your video? It's a bit hard to take a t.v. with dvd player up to the slope you know!?I'm going to Austria next year so that's why I;m asking you. Anyway love the video can't stop watching it!greetings from Holland
