Dyson DC21 Paper Test

In response to the ill-fated Dyson DC15 paper test video where the machine couldn't pick up a piece of paper and hold it to the nozzle, I decided to try the same with my DC21 Stowaway. However, I added a little twist to it.First, you will see the machine picking up the paper with an empty bin. Then, I vacuumed up a mixture of rice and Borax applied to the rug to show the pickup capability of the machine. Afterwards, I zoom in on the contents of the bin (showing all of the fine dust), then attempt to pick up the same piece of paper. Watch and see :)By the way, this is one of the first US DC21s, I bought it right when it came out last March from a fellow collector (and Dyson dealer) who received the first US shipment of DC21s. The serial number on mine is 38!Here is the link to the DC15 video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

I tried this for myself - with the brushbar _on_ the brushes were simply knocking the paper enough to open up gaps, letting the air in, reducing the vacuum, and therefore the paper simply falls off. With the brushbar _off_ then the paper 'sticks'. However, it should be noted that depending on the model of the machine, the amount by which the brushes stick out might vary slightly, which could cause the effect seen in the DC-15 video.

IS the Dyson canister model better than the Upright Dyson model?

well my filter queen will suck paper tight to the frame of the power head and you end up having to rip the paper to get it off. our simplicity upright which has a large debres channel on the front also picked up the paper and held it tight to the frame. so i dont believe that the channel is keeping it from bending a piece of paper. looks like dyson can make a halfway performing canister unit but thats it. the purple animal that i used couldnt pick up a popcorn kernl and it was new.

ACTALLYthe reason why it couldnt pick up the paper was because the brushbar was not on! However, it does pick up the paper when the brushbar is on. the brushbar creates a suction vortex strong enough to pick up the paper. but without the brushbar its basically useless. all poor planning of the dyson ball. you win some you lose some. more maneuverability but not enough suction.

If you go to the link in the description, it shows someone testing their DC15 with a piece of paper. The DC15 cannot hold the piece of paper to the nozzle due to the suction channel in the front of the nozzle for large debris on bare floors (cereal and the like), NOT because it lacks power. My friend Tom (who is a Dyson dealer/service center) showed me his DC15 last month and how it really works. The piece of paper is just for testing, you wouldn't ordinarily try to pick this up, no.

Sorry don't know of many vacuums that would suck of a full flat sheet of paper off the floor, don't know why you would need to suck up a sheet of paper anyway, try picking it up before you vacuum. Sorry not trying to be sarcastic just comes natural

the canister can do it.
