@lolocaust, its a bit more complicated than that. Thinking someone is merely 'ignorant' explains it only to the outsider. Women and men both stay in abusive relationships for many different reasons. Insecurity, lack of a support network, feeling that they can overcome the problem, all these factors can contrive to make a prison out of an abusive relationship. It usually takes a major incident or series of incidents to change someones mind. Its not something you 'just snap out of'
