but the music...the synth and melodies sounds like he could have chopped up "Don't Say Goodnight" by the Isley Brothers...the beat initially reminds me of Dilla's "Bye" which is why I'm asking.

The bass and drums were sampled from an old school reggae riddim. Which is why it has a bit of a mellow dancehall/reggae/lovers rock vibe; T3 couldn't have perfected it more.
