Poor Whites - South Africa

June 2006Since the end of apartheid, thousands of white South Africans have been forced into poverty. They blame the government's positive discrimination policies, which favour black employees.Twelve years ago, Afrikaners like Betsie Dreyer lived a privileged and cocooned life. Now, many are dependent on charity handouts. "We are fighting all the time to survive." The government is determined to see the workforce appropriately reflect the population. It gives black people priority in employment, sets 'black quotas' for businesses and favours companies owned by black people. But critics accuse the government of neglecting its responsibility to white citizens. As union rep Kallie Kriel states: "It's ironic that a government that fought racial laws is now doing exactly the same thing."

I never said the whites were, but I said the blacks weren't, these two people represent a race that is older and were there first. Do not read the comments or do you just not understand? Read some history and educate yourself a little...

The ANC currently has blacks-only hiring laws. This renders white people unemployable, of which 1 million are currently unemployed. It is illegal for them to be employed. They have no jobs, and no money, and no way out.

While black victims outnumber whites statistically, the rates are higher for whites as victims. Check out the surnames of the farm victims---they are overwhelmingly and disproportionately Boer, the Afrikaner farming community (Dutch with Huguenot and German contributions). See the crimebusters website. If 3.5% of Americans were murdered, wouldn't there be an outcry?

You may also recall that "One settler, one bullet" was Mandela's warcry, and "Kill the Boer, killer the farmer" is a common black campaign slogan, which Mbeki has recently decried. Please checkoutr genocide watch and crimebusters. Also I have never endorsed Apartheid. I am advocating the establishment of a homeland for the Boer people or else a cease to current policies which are excluding them from rightful participation in South African society.

Well at least we can agree that the current system isn't effective. I am no defender of the current government of SA and if it needs to go then it needs to go. And, the the worse thing at can happen is if there is a brain drain with people leaving. However, I just have a problem when people say the long for the old system because it unjust.

greg: I agree with you that the system must work for all. But it isn't. And nothing is being done. That is why people are leaving. The British almost exterminated the Boers once. Now it will be accomplished by the ANC>

I am not defending the SA government's inability to control crime. However, I do understand that blacks are much more likely to be victims of crime than whites. So why not have a system that a least tries to protect and work for ALL the citizens. Not just white and not just black. Otherwise there will never be peace in South Africa.

Show me the figures that whites are being systematically raped and tortured in SA. And I don't mean the ones who are victims of street crime from opportunists. I do mean people who are targeted solely because they are white and who are actually raped and tortured for no other reason than their color.What you are saying here is that there is a campaign of genocide against whites in SA. Am I not correct?
