Kobe Bryant 2007: 39 point "Revenge Game" vs. Washington

Date: February 3, 2007Many Lakers fans finally got to know what it feels like when an opposing player drops 60 on your team. In an unforgettable game in Los Angeles in 2007 , Gilbert did just that. Kobe had a memorable game as well, with 45 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds. But the lingering competitiveness of Bryant, would not be defeated.Kobe would see Gilbert again on February 3rd, 2007, and as Caron Butler said, "You can be sure Kobe circled this day on his calender." Despite the fact that Washington was tied for 1st place in the East with a 29-17 record, Gilbert Arenas was extremely fearful of Bryant heading into the game. The ESPN game recap read: WASHINGTON (AP) -- "The big rematch with Kobe Bryant turned out to be too big for Gilbert Arenas, who psyched himself out before the game even started. Departing from his usual happy-go-lucky routine, Arenas donned his headphones 90 minutes before tipoff and had the edgy nervousness of a kid waiting in a lobby for a job interview. Bryant meanwhile, put on a masterful display, making 7 consecutive jumpshots at one point. With another exceptional all-around game, Bryant racked up 39 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Bryant was in a zone in the first half, even telling Coach Phil Jackson that he felt he could get 40 in the 1st half. Proving the haters wrong once again, Bryant held back and played within the offense-showing his poise, leadership, and "coachability".
