I would classify Led Zeppelin as hard rock although they have a couple metal songs. But really the first real all out heavy metal band was Black Sabbath. They are the gods of metal. and one of the best bands in the world

LOLOLOL.. Black Sabbath INVENTED Metal.. There was no metal without BS. And that BS is not as fast and as heavy as the metal which came later, doesn't mean that they are not metal. This is the first kind of metal, that's why it is not as heavy and fast as the metal of nowadays.

Black Sabbath was one of the bands that sparked the heavy metal genre... Their songs have "heavy" playing, which is what differs heavy metal from rock.
