Pt 1: The AQHA Western Pleasure Horse (2003)

PART ONE:'In 2003, AQHA Executive Director of Judges Alex Ross, along with Dale Livingston, who teaches many of AQHA's judging seminars, produced a video that exemplified in detail the ideal western pleasure horse. The AQHA's five-member executive committee sent the video and a letter to every one of its judges. "The purpose of the tape and the letter was to address how the executive committee wanted to see the class change for the better," Alex says. "In it, the executive committee addressed a couple of points, particularly horses not displaying self-carriage and the lack of forward motion at both the jog and the lope."'(Text adapted from article by Jennifer Nice)

Beautiful horse, agreeing with UglyBarnical, i have nothing at all against hunter/jumpers but its nice to see some relaxing western pleasure.

i can't wait to show my three year old this year in western pleasure. i broke her last summer all by myself and i was only 14, and she looks like a champion western pleasure horse. she does all the stuff naturally, even jog and lope. i never have4 to ask her to slow down. this video is really helpful too.

I have a QH mare that I'm going to be doing western pleasure with this summer, it'll be my first time showing, but watching this video, I know she won't be that good...my mare's lope is way to fast....GREAT horse! So pretty, very talented.

amazing i always knew a ot about riding but i hate it when people just ride hunter jumpers they cant sit deep i have nothing against them because i love jumping but i also love reining and western pleasure simply if you want to be a good all around riding you have to know how to do western and english or your screwed,..... that was some great info!

great video, I learned a lot from it. I've always thought of WP as boring peanut roller horses, but mainly because small local shows encouraged that and obviously made up their own standards--whatever horse fell asleep the fastest and had the most silver tack won. I see there's much more to it, and these horses look beautiful and alert :)

i was going to do western pleasure with my horse. But he's kind of a spaz so i though barrel racing was more fitting. that horse in the video is great :)
