Impossible... or so they said, at the time, but smart use of the in-cartridge SFX2 21hz coprocessor chip made famous for Starwing/Starfox (using the previous version of the SFX Chip @11hz version) managed to see Doom ported on the humble Super Nintendo. For this amazing feat, floor and ceiling textures were gone, the view size was a bit reduced from full screen, but everything else, was in there. An amazing accomplishment even by todays, and it still managed to be a better port then the Sega 32x port. Heres me having some nostalgic shotgun fun.

It was a good port but it was so hard to turn on the SNES.

I had this game on psx at that time, one of my friends had the snes version... Very impressive for a 16 bit system.The super FX2 was not clocked at 21MHz but there are two super FX at 10.5MHz.

Personally I thought the 32x version was better because the textures were there and you could see the demons from far away frame rate was also better it looked more like the pc version. The only problem was the sound and the amount of levels; they didn't put enough levels in the 32x version.

It's not worth getting the actual system to play these games. ZNES works fine. The difference is marginal. Besides you can alter the video setting to emulate a television tube.

i got the impression that the graphics would be really shit but, although they're not as good as other ports, they're not shit enough to make it unplayable.

The 32X version of Doom sucked because all of the games on the 32X were rushed. SEGA in desperation tried to make the 32X look good by rushing all of the games that were to be for it's library to market. The 32X version of Doom doesn't take advantage of the 32X's advanced sound capabilities and resorted to using the actual Genesis for sound. The game even crashes as a result of the game not knowing it's not running on a computer.

From what I've seen the music is f'n awesome better than the 32x version. It's also pretty smooth, but the 32x has a little better sound effects.
