in mgs3, he was known as snake. he defeated 'the boss', earned the name of 'big boss' they used big boss's genes to make a new project 'les terribles enfants' which consisted solid snake, liquid snake, and solidus snake. Soon after mgs3, Big Boss went crazy and went bad, like terrorist bad. he lost everything he had. thats where solid snake (metal gear, metal gear 2: solid snake for the snes system) came in and killed him
