Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard singing Merle's song "Sing Me Back Home". This aired on August 2nd, 1969. (Merle Haggard was an inmate at San Quentin prison and was in the audience when Johnny Cash played his first prison concert there in 1958. Watching that show was one of the things that inspired Merle to pursue a music career when he was released from prison)

I would have prefered it without the strings. When Cash takes over, it's fine but then the strings kick back in.

Wow - this is so awesome to see these two great entertainers together. I love them both and I do think this song sounds better after Merle does the harmonizing. Johnny's voice is so deep and it sounds richer for him to carry the melody. I love all the prison songs - Green Green Grass, Shackles and Chains and this one here altho they make me cry. Of course, as Merle said, Jimmy Rogers is the daddy of the prison songs. Thanks so much for posting. - Paula
