Yes, Del's version will be rubbish. And if you don't know why, you should be taken off and shot. Nor is this bluegrass.

the man is an amazing wordsmith and fingerstylist, this song being no exception...chris james' and jeff lang's versions are also worth a listen (both on the 'tube) - i think i prefer both of their vocal deliveries to RT's, but that's clearly a matter of taste

"he gave her one last kiss and died" one of the saddest song lines ever.

Is Del's version terrible because he changed Boxhill to Knoxville? Del was raised a couple hours from Knoxville, and many,if not most, of his live performances are in the South. This is a common occurance in concerts to change place names to a locale that the concert-goers can relate to. I've never heard Del mention Harleys in the song itself, only in comments before or after the song. Del and Richard are both class acts. If you don't like Bluegrass, you probably won't like Del! open your mind.

the del mcroury version is terrible. changing Boxhill to Knoxville and mentioning Harleys makes a nonsense of the song.what on earth has Knoxville got to do with motorcycles? the vincent black lightning held the world land speed record for more than twenty years, and is the bike a 'dangerous man' is more likely to own.

I love this, and also beeswing, they both show performance and deep social understanding

They would be Hells Angels on Aeriel's motorcycle with a four cylinder engine with the cylinders configured in a square.

Del McCoury's version is very different from RT's. Both are excellent renditions. I'll bet RT is honored to have Del(and many other artists)cover his songs. Top notch Bluegrass musicians are among the finest and most talented in the world. But I don't believe they can teach RT anything about picking.
