The Beautiful Ava Gardner Sings

This is a clip I made using photos of the beautiful Ava Gardner, with her singing voice in the background. She sang her own songs in filming "Show Boat" but the studio thought her voice not good enuf and they dubbed her songs with the voice of Annette Warren. As you will hear in this clip, Ava's (singing) voice should have stayed in the film, much sweeter and more natural. Ava never forgave the studio for this!

Annette Warren is whose singing voice was used in Show Boat in place of Ava's. NOT Annette "Waring" as stated in another comment.And, I agree they should have kept Ava's, voice. She was beautiful singing it here. Annette's voice is beautiful too, but Ava was the one in the movie...

I wish they had kept her voice in the movie as well. She might not have the technique Annette Waring had, but she puts so much passion into the song and I believe every word she's singing.

Ava's version is real and genuine, yet unfortunately, not commercial enough for the Hollywood of those days.

omg thats her voice why didnt they keep it in showboat!so beautiful they didnt take her like an actress she was just a beautiful person to her!but she was much more i read her biog she was so funny and honest

thanks and thanks for sharing this! i just watched Show Boat a few days ago and was disappointed her singing was not kept in the film. at least we have it here :)

Ava's voice is sooo much sweeter than the dubbed voice MGM used in 'Showboat'!! In my opnion, that version is a little 'too much' &theatrical. Ava sings it lovely and unpretentious herself. Nice slideshow, by the way! (:

That is so funny! The very first time I saw Show Boat I said "Wow! That girl really looks alot like the grandfather."
