Dear ShellyI stand corrected. Having reviewed my poor spelling and looking in the mirror as you suggest I discover that my view is totally erroneous and you are a paragon of good taste whose addition to the point at hand was well made and valuable to the point in hand. _Go back to tubing_

I am a little embarrassed for you because you are trying to be critical and you can't spell.Look in the mirror before looking at others.

Exciting improvements throughout the library environmentand service are currently being developed and planned for. This poor effort that you have made at addressing the issues just makes me cringe.

I'm a little embarrassed for you and for the proffession. There is very little here aside from the references to the Geek Side and your prepubescent final solution fantasies. Libraries need to utilize new digital technologies and future mediums to store and transmit knowledge. The stereotypical librarian image and low uptake of services in Public Libraries reflect their failure to move with the times and to address the needs of the community in some areas.

You definately raise some valid points that cannot be disputed, but issues of funding are also at play. Our public libraries must squeeze every penny. Issues like filters that block internet use strikes me as a necessity in a public place...no?

I don't believe that Library professionals need to be "gung-ho" - that suggests a certain recklessness and technolust. However, library staff should keep educating themselves on information trends. If you've chosen to work in the information industry, then it's a matter of professional principle to keep yourself informed and educated. And sharing this knowledge means that you can interact with other professionals in evaluating new technologies, and deciding how relevant it really is.

The problem you pose is that since Library Directors aren't "gun ho" for new technology, they aren't giving the directive for library staff to become educated on it.
