I can't remember specific examples. Interactive maths / physics things, generative art, games... often very simple programs.Also, I don't believe that just because a lot of people like something means it's not crappy; frequently quite the opposite - just look at music ;)Although of course you're right; if it crashed the whole time, it wouldn't have that number of players.

Forgot to mention, since you brought up ogl have you heard about a game called runescape ? it runs entirely on a java applet using opengl (and software rendering), it's "Recognised by Guiness World Records as the world's most popular free MMORPG" and it has around 5 million active users and 1 million paying members. If java applets were really that crappy they could never have that amount of players. JApplet is not flash but I think people should see them as "different tools for different jobs".

What kind of problems are you talking about ? are you talking from past old experience or just from what people say ? I really never had any problems with java applets, I do confess I've had some issues with java webstart like not wanting to load the app. But java applets are pretty solid depending on the tech you use to build your programs.

I realise that - I've done a fair bit with Java myself. The ability to do hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering in an applet, for example, is beyond what is currently possible with flash.I really fail to see what is so new about JavaFX, though.As a user, I'm trained to associate the 'applet loading' graphics with a hosed browser. Perhaps because too many people are unable to deal with the power it brings.Processing sketches - which are pure java - tend to be ok.Just my experience...

The reality is that java "little applets" are WAY more powerful than any other embedded apps like flash "applets"

Crashing repeatedly!This could be really good technology, but I'm afraid that I've learnt to basically expect 'cool applets' to crash and it looks like the trend is set to continue...
