Since what you don't know can't possibly harm you, by all means just keep telling yourself, over and over again, "There is more oil within the planet than is conceivably imaginable, and the technology to pull it out advances year after year." That should take care of it.

Complete scaremongering crap. As long as I can remember the "end of oil" has just been around the corner. People love to have a good doomsday scenario, always conveniently just 5 or 6 years away. In the 1980's the talk was all of coal running out.. and guess what, we're all still alive. There is more oil within the planet than is conceivably imaginable, and the technology to pull it out advances year after year. Get over yourselves!

I think you're talking about the abiotic theory of oil generation. Unfortunately, there's no evidence to demonstrate that's how oil is produced; our depleted oil deposits do not seem to be spontaneously refilling.

The estimate is between 112-115 billion barrels in proven reserves - those estimates are usually revised downward as the oil is pumped. If accurate, that makes them number two in the world behind Saudi Arabia.

It's only an estimate you can find on wikipedia(peak oil).Yeah, you're right. Do we have an idea of how much oil there actually is in Iraq?

We have so much oil burned, so many animals and plants couldn`t live on Earth. Oil is not fossil, it arises in the Earth.

Care to cite a reference for that prediction? I'm pretty sure Iraq remains significantly under-explored in terms of confirmed oil resources, and I'm guessing we'll be feeling the effects of the global peak long before Iraq has been fully explored and exploited.

Iraq is predicted to have peak oil around 2018.. After that, we're fucked :P

We need not be dependent on oil. At The Green House Sky Developments have achieved a carbon negative home which in fact produced 130% of it's annual energy requirement through solar and air source power. This property runs itself and supplies the grid with power. This is not a wierdy concept home but a terrace that has been constructed using the Sky building method. Check it out on the Sky Developments channel to learn more. |
