Actually, it was probably scripted. Notice that Groucho says "can I look at a program?" This was probably a line they used in the play that they decided to transfer to the film.

This guy takes things seriously, it isn't safe to ask him a simple question..." - oh yes!... this is a good example of how there is actually something kind of serious behind the comedy of the Marx Brothers. A depth that gives it more power to make us love it. As the guy above says, after I heard Groucho saying this i felt 'Oh, maybe ive been too serious like that sometimes! - i should have a more relaxed attitude, more flexible and humourous.' |
