Eye of the fuckin' Tiger kid! Is all I can say.

If I just did mountain climbers and punches, I don't think they'd be that fast, especially toward the end - mountain climbers are brutal.

I just did the tabata tonight using punches and mountain climbers only. Your mountain climbers are faster than mine. Keep it up!

It's the name of the researcher who came up with the four minute, "20 sec on, 10 sec off" concept.

You're right - switching out the pushups for something else would be harder, but this routine is hard enough. I can't really do full body exercises for each one - I get so winded I can barely move!Usually I like to do two Tabata's: 4 minutes lower body, 4 minutes upper, with about 5 min rest between the two. This vid is one of my first ones I did, and it's obviously a mix of upper and lower, which is nice when you're in a big hurry.

Great job! I Do Tabata workouts 2x week. sub out the pushups for a full body move like jumping jacks and it will be that much better. Thrusters are great too but you allready have the mountain climbers in there. Real sprints are the best as the original protocall was done on speed sk8rs. Personally, I had to do 10 seconds of work with 20 seconds rest to be able to complete. Thats because the sprint is based on your 10 second distance. There is no shortcut. Pure hell.

I've tried various chains of exercises one after another though never one like this, so I can't really say yes or no to that. I definitely will try it in the future though. Oh by the way, why are these exercises named 'Tabata'?

That's a good point - those are not the hardest pushups - but I believe they're plenty hard for this workout. In this workout, maximum effort is more of a priority than form. I need to achieve a 100% effort during each 20 second interval. I have to go fast in order to give 100% in such a short time, and when I go fast, sometimes form gets a little sloppy. You ever tried a Tabata routine?

Nice routine; however, shouldn't push-ups be done with back straightened, not raised/curved upwards? This way you only seem to traverse about half of the floor/up route of the usual pushup...However, as far as health goes, I've never heard about someone's back being damaged by pushups, in this form of yours or any other.

Having tight pecs is a sign of increased kyphosis (rounded shoulders). Sure you might not have back pain now & you might not later, but an increase chance of risk in injury is pretty scary... Sure, the way you do it may be giving you the results you want, but if you focus on your form you could be getting twice as many results. Correct form can mean better range of movement & muscle balance. It also means you'll be recruiting more muscles so you're getting more out of your workout. |
