It's not any one thing. Energy itself does not kill. Energy is what enables a bullet to inflict damage. The damage is what kills. The more energy a bullet has, the more potential for damage.The more penetration that occurs the more damage is dealt. Faster = more penetration. The larger the diameter, the larger the permanent cavity = more damage. The more energy pushes a heavy large projective against resistance, the more bruising, bleeding etc. occurs from temporary cavitation.

Your rounds are not going to "mushroom" because they are as you say Full Metal Jacket. Even if they were hollow points, which do expand, they probably wouldnt do it too well going through 4x4s. Wood isnt too good of a medium to test expansion.

the 45 won't have more penetration than a 9. the 45 is a larger diameter and slower. It hits harder, but doesn't penetrate as deep.

Well, you can discuss this for ever, but all i can say is that a modern Nato 9mm ball in torso is more than enough. I know this cause i`ve been at the "red line" in Afganistan..

the 9mm deformed because it penetrated more, and 9mm just has higher penetration because its faster, the 45acp didnt because its big and slow, nice vid.
