It was never revealed to be Baal... it was Diablo since the beginning of D2.

"...from that moment we travelled together, east. always into the east..."after so many years it still sends shiver up my spine. the opening cinematic from diablo 2 is one of the best pieces of fantasy art ever.it crossed the border where cgi was a nice gimmick to serious art.
