your explanation is so lengthy, a better explanation would be:without the first two steps, moving forwards by x steps and backwards by x steps brings you back to the same place, so with the steps, you always move 2 steps backwards from the first place which is the city.Since city is 4 steps away in either direction from the moon, you will always end up in the moon!!
