It is a song from the heart, a song that makes you think. much of the music now days does not have the power to make you think its just pretty dressing on the surface. I think this has less to do with how spiritual or not Julian is, and more about the condition of the human heart and feeling based on what one has learned.But yes we are taught Mary the mother of our Lord loves all humanity as does God.

He's not singing against Mother Mary, either. The character he's singing about is just saying, if I mess up, will I be rejected by Mother Mary or will she still stand by me? Which is what julianisaakfan said. The Christian belief is that God loves everyone unconditionally. So the answer to that would be, yes, God, or Mary in this case, would stick by him, even if he messed up. Unfortunately, people don't always show such unconditional love, which is very sad. :,( Everyone makes mistakes.

I hesitate to mention it, but have you guys really listened to the lyrics? It's about a young man who has been taught religion all his life and then begins to question it. If he does something wrong, will she still stand by him?
