In Portugal you have 35 year old Mariza - In Greece, we have 70-year old Marinella. It strikes me how these two women mesmerize the listener (and watcher!) giving them an audio-visual experience with such a passion no choreographer can give to any artist... This stage-prescense is something you earn and learn, not something you practice on.

It is rare when we find a voice that can reach into our souls. I have lived a long lifetime and I have been lucky to have encountered such voices a few times. Mariza is an artist who's artistry transcends language and culture to touch chords of emotion in all who have had the joy of hearing and seeing her perform. I became a "groupie" late in life, and I have had the pleasure of meeting with this great star many times. For those who can I urge you to attend a live performance.

Mariza quedou fuera de el Grammy Latino 2008 antes al inicio de la ceremonia. La organización decidió entregar los premios considerados "menos importantes" antes del comienzo de la ceremonia oficial. El galardón Mejor Álbum Folklórico recayó en el colombiano Cholo Valderrama por su producción "Caballo!". De ese modo, y sin que se la mencionará en cámaras como parte de los nominados, se quedou fuera Mariza.
