That was like watching Ali, Pele, Tiger, Elvis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Olivier, Bradman or anyone else that is renowned as the best of the best. No wonder Chuck wanted Bob as his wingman when he broke the sound barrier, why trust your life to anyone, but an equal!

Bob Hoover, Amazing. I remember seeing him with my dad in the early sixties at an open house at Luke AFB west of phoenix doing some flying very similar to this in an F-100 Super Sabre. I later met him in the late '60s at Falcon field in Mesa Az. He told us about old yeller, and gave us a tour. He is truly a great man. Don

Once, Bob was testing an F-86 with an experimental fly-by-wire system controlling the elevator. During take-off, he lost elevator control, the aircraft slowly pitched up, and finally lost airspeed. Bob kicked the rudder, made a stall turn and headed down. Fortunately the F-86 slowly pitched up again very close to ground and started a new climb out. After a series of stall turns, Bob managed to bring the F-86 under control, and landed at Muroc dry lake, still without elevator control. What a man!
