Actually, him touching his ear doesn't "Q" anything. If he wanted to tell something to the group he didn't have to touch his ear to do it, he could easily just alter the tempo in a second. The reason why he keeps touching his ear is because pressure builds up in your head when you play the trumpet and applying that pressure sort of helps it go away. As a trumpet player, I know it helps me. Sort of like when your on a plane or underground on a train. I hope I helped!
