Gene Kelly steps into the shoes of Douglas Fairbanks Sr in the MGM remake of The Three Musketeers. Is that what's missing in the movies nowadays, a good swashbuckler?

In "That's Entertainment" Fred Astaire said that Gene quick did the stunts before the MGM bosses found out about them! It's easy to tell if Gene did a stunt himself. Just look for his distinctive "calling card": his butt.

he wanted to do his own stunts but sometimes MGM wouldn't let him because they were afraid of losing one of their most valued actors. just a lil gene kelly fun fact lol.

I was more impressed by the sword fighting in this movie than all 3 Pirates of the Caribbean movies. And thats why I hate Disney... (exits) JK! :P

Not so. I read just today that he had a double for the horse riding stuff.

Gene Kelly did all of his own stunts! His talent never ends!

I think of all the movies this really has some things going for it. I also think Gene Kelly has the moves that I would think d'Artagnan would have.

They just don't make swordfights like they used to. In fact they just don't seem to have swordfights in films any more. That's more entertaining than gunshots or explosions any day.Great choreography and a very slick Gene Kelly makes for an excellent scene!

1948 appears to be one of the best versions of this movie |
