We introduce Shadow Reaching, an interaction techniquethat makes use of a perspective projection applied to ashadow representation of a user. The technique was designedto facilitate manipulation over large distances andenhance understanding in collaborative settings. We describethree prototype implementations that illustrate thetechnique, examining the advantages of using shadows asan interaction metaphor to support single users and groupsof collaborating users. Using these prototypes as a designprobe, we discuss how the three components of the technique(sensing, modeling, and rendering) can be accomplishedwith real (physical) or computed (virtual) shadows, and the benefits and drawbacks of each approach.

A large screen would be wanted by anybody with a lot of information to look at. For example somebody making a presentation to a large crowd, such as a lecturer to a class of 200 people.

yup, it was really working. The user is holding a device consisting of a button (for clicks) and a position tracker. The cursors jump around a bit because the tracking system was running on buggy firmware (since fixed)

who would have a touch screen too tall for the user to reach the top.
