In 2001, author and artist Maurice Sendak entered into an unusual collaboration with the Pilobolus Dance Company to create "A Selection," a contemporary ballet inspired by true stories of the Holocaust. This video contains extensive rehearsal footage throughout that illustrates how the dancers themselves participate in the process used to choreograph the work. The collaborative process is so extensive that the dancers all receive a permanent choreography credit. Performance footage is included at 0:00 and 2:15.Although many dancers are shown, Benjamin Pring and Otis Cook are featured. Don't miss "Bendable Ben" at 6:50-8:05...The resulting dance piece, "A Selection", is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... dance videos are available on our website at http://www.theBestArts.com/Dan... our extensive set of playlists for more great dance, music and musical theatre performances!

Wow! I can't find words to describe this. Beauty would begin as it applies to emotional, conceptual faculties. I'm glad the performers get credit for their contribution. It's more personal that way, I think.

common, not commonplace.

Rarely does anyone get to watch the birth of TRUE ART! Free ideas, talent and creativity, all meshing together to tell a visual story that's emotionally unique to each viewer, yet it's all very commonplace on the surface. The flowing movements seem to stretch past the boundries of expressive dance, reaching and even surpassing at times, the limits of physical tolerance. And they all make it look so painless and comfortable that I can actually enjoy it without guilt. 5 stars! Thanks for posting!

This is awesome! I was lucky enough to take part in a dance workshop with Pilobolus years ago (here in St. Louis), and it was so much fun. I was never much of a modern dancer before the workshop, but learning from them inspired me to branch out into all kinds of dance - as well as Yoga (which I was never into before either!). Thanks so much for posting this. :-)
