I prefer Richter too by all means but I don't think it is wise to include Chopin's hypothetical playing in any argument:no one knows how he played it and yet even if we knew , his interpretation would not become standard version.

somebody ought to shoot the director for his excessive wide shots. Show us his hands!! Anyway, great playing.

I prefere a slower version of etude 10/3

Yes it definitely is. There are just few pianist who really can play it accurately in this tempo. But I don't think he feel pain, because when you have the right technique you don't feel pain.

Shocking. At the end of Etude 10/2 he fells his hand painful. Actually is one of the most problematic work for the piano.

And you clearly were trying to speak for Chopin, otherwise you wouldn't have said what I quoted below. Have your own opinions and tastes by all means, but please don't try to make them look more authentic or inherently correct by putting unproven words into the composer's mouth.

Well, I did agree with that. However, if that's your problem with it, you hadn't said so. Simply saying that a piece is played 'too fast' (when Chopin instructs the player to go exceedingly fast with metronome marks) is a different thing entirely.

Please don't turn this into a personal attack. I'm not questioning your knowledge of Chopin or trying to speak for him, but I still stand by what I said before. Do I think Chopin would have wanted this piece played as he did? No, I don't -- because it sounds sloppy. What I meant is that if he's going to play it at this speed, he needs to be a little more careful with it.Compare this to Richter's performance (also on youtube) which is even faster but manages to retain the artistry of the music.

You're welcome to hold your own opinions on what you like, but when you say such absurd things as:"Chopin certainly wouldn't have wanted him to blaze through it at the pace he plays it"I'm afraid that you simply demonstrate how pretentious your are. Have your own opinions by all mean but, if you have feel that you are in a position to speak on Chopin's behalf, I think you ought to be doing a little more research.

Sorry, but your comments suggest that you do have a narrow view of music. You attribute your personal opinions to Chopin himself- despite his OWN metronome marks (a point which you still ignore!) It's all very well saying thing along the lines of "Chopin wouldn't have wanted it to be this fast" but that comment only reveals your limited perceptions. I would prefer more clear articulation but less speed is just for 'easy listening' Chopin. Chopin too had balls, my friend.
