this is parodius for the MSX. Yup it all started on this japanese home computer.Thankfully MSX games games featured on this collection are versions that have music using the SSC chip. The SCC is a wavetable sound chip (created by Konami)and thanks to them, their MSX games sound pretty decent. One thing that really bugs me is that Konami spent a good half of the late 80's making games for the MSX(personally I would NEVER called this a games machine) when they could have spent more productive time making games for the pc engine... BTW this is the MSX collection on the Sega Saturn which unlike the playstation version features all 30 games on one disc.I gotta stress the gradius related games on the MSX are some of the hardest games ever...and if you got serious anger management issues.. don't play these!!

Konami actually played it dirty for the MSX Antiques (this in the video) for PSX, splitting one collection out over 3 discs, while the Saturn got all 30 games on 1 disc. Both Saturn and PSX got the full glory arcade Gradius titles, none inferior to the other.

I thought that was dirty of konami to give saturn the 8-bit versions of their games and then turn around and give playstation the original in all there glory. I was dissapointed in them. Saturn has a more powerful 2d engine then playstation 1. That was bogus!

I take it you don't seriously think that the first generation of home computers rolled from the factories with 3D graphics and 32 bit sound, now do you?!?

The plot of this Parodius is that Takosuke (or Tako here) is a alien computer programmer and he somehow creates dreams to the people of Earth. That weird face is a computer virus called "Bug" that is destroying these dreams. Takosuke recruits that knight guy, Goemon, Vic Viper, and Pentarou to help him. It does not appear to be part of the main Parodius canon (although I could be wrong).

I became quite fond of Konami's MSX games while pirating them with a Dreamcast emu. I later bought the Saturn MSX Collection to ease my conscience, and it was well worth it. Once you get used to the terrible scrolling, the shooters give their present day installments a run for their money (except for Salamander, way too damn hard).
