They are from Belfast. What the rest of the world forgets, or doesn't realise, is there was nothing for people to to in Belfast at night in the 70's. The town shut down after 6pm, due to the problem of recurrent car bombings. The only people you would see in Belfast city centre were, police, Army and punks going to the Pound club, where SLF and other local punk bands would play.

they're from Northern Ireland, which is part of The United Kingdom, but obviously that is a point of tension, something Stiff Little Fingers wrote about.
