Interesting...I red book twice (and following parts once), but I didn't see this movie (only TV adaption, which was captured in 2004, I think).

It 'looked' epic - I can't think of anything more breathtaking than the 'Long live the fighters!' scene and some of the desert battles were equally good. It's almost biblical in its feel - Paul really did seem like the titan of the book. But then there were the weirding modules, the hokey effects, Sting and the rain at the end...

This was a horrible adaptation in many ways, and it no doubt did a grave disservice to the book. That being said, a lot about it was fantastic. It was superbly cast (although I wasn't keen on the Harkonnens), the costumes were great, the desert looked awesome. Unlike the Sci-Fi version this actually felt like a remote and alien future instead of 20th century people in space. The music was fabulous (I don't care what snobbish critics said).

Dune was a complicted fascinating epic that forced the viewer/ reader to think a little bit. Much more intellecutal than star wars.
