It seems like a lot of people are either better at drawing women and have trouble with men, or vice-versa. Usually females have an easier time drawing females and males have an easier time drawing males. So I wanted to do a side-by-side comparison of some of the differences when drawing males compared to females. I know that the presentation is a bit weird and awkward, but it's the best way I could think of to show the differences. I included a colouring portion to show some of the concerns that need to be taken into account when colouring also. I had no idea what to call this, hence the crappy title. Hope it helps some people. your approach to drawing the girl face seems much more careful and systematic. you check back more often, too. when drawing the guy face it seems more natural, free-hand. there's more shading and less clean lines, also. good job on both sides tho.

i am female myself but when comes to drawing males & females, i tend to find it easier to draw men than i do with women. men have straight-ish looking body shapes, & women have more of a curvy, roundish look to them. which i find hard to replicate on the page. it is somewhat of a challenge trying to draw the human figure but it can also be difficult for some who are good at drawing women, but who have trouble drawing men & vice versa. your tutorial though was very helpful & thanks again

Thank you for your help! I, personally, am good at drawing males, but i go through hell to be able to draw a female figure! It always comes out with men characteristics on the face and a muscular body, because i like drawing comic-like characters, like Marvel. However hard i try, i can never make a woman look like a woman!

i loved watching you draw. you've obviously got a great technique and i generally like sketches. it is true... i have more trouble drawing guys than i do drawing girls. it's difficult sometimes to make the features either subtly masculine or feminine. there's no exact tangible reason one subject looks more girly or boyish. loved the comparison!

Interesting, but the nose is waay too far down the face and the eyes are too small, even for both faces. Still, you've shown the obvious differences quite well. Good job. |
