The practice will not be as muscular as it seems. Like Martial arts, an advanced Ashtanga practice will depend on enhanced coordination and "running energy" to some extent. The power of the practice will eventually come from the energetic level.

to Grenbarme---see David Swenson's video under "related videos". He is one of the best. He also has a book and training videos. As to how long it takes to master the practice, it depends on how far you want to go, your natural talent for it, and your dedication to the practice.
