They will eventually have to update. In 10-20 years, who know's what kind of weapon we might have. It may even make all current weapons obsolete (and I think the army is looking for a weapon like that at this point, or at least it seems like that). The only way the M4/M16 family will be replaced soon is if our elected officials keep pushing the top military brass for a better rifle IMO.

i wonder if the M4/M16 will be replaced by the SCAR. i know the Army doesn't want to replace the M16/M4 for the Regular army anytime soon, but after the SCAR has been adopted by the special forces for several years, what will the regulars use? they can't keep using the same rifle forever. they have to update sometime, right?

The SCAR and several other weapons systems that are currently out there perform just as well, but do not have marketing like the 416 has had. Also, the 416 loses in the ergonomics department (an inherent problem in the M4/M16 design).

hk 416 own all the weapons cuz its more reliable when operate in water or sand missions.

Actually, they are changing their camo soon. My brother goes to West Point and he fills me in on things like these. They're planning on changing their camo around 2010-2012.

Where'd you hear they were changing their camo? Then again, I never heard they were switching to digital ACU, so...Also, what ever happened to a common camo for all branches? AF has a tiger stripe, Army has their ACU, Marines have their digital patterns (which I think is best of all of them). It would be nice to see them all with multicam though.

The Army is replacing the M16/M4 for Special Forces, but not for the Regular Army. The Army has put so much money into the M16 platform, it's not going anywhere soon. The next thing the Army is changing for everyone is its camouflage. They're changing from the Digital ACU to the Multicam pattern. The Multicam is much more effective and blends with everything, unlike the Army's current camouflage.
