August 2005China's controversial one child policy has stemmed population growth but at what cost? From forced abortions to heavy fines, many have suffered."If people tried to have a second child and didn't have any money, they'd have their house pulled down," complains Liu Shuling. She attracted the wrath of local officials and was heavily fined when she became pregnant a second time. "It was very hard," she recalls. "Fortunately, we didn't starve to death." For the past twenty-five years, controlling population growth has been a major priority for the Chinese government. "Unless there is a containment of population, there will be no economic growth, no social stability or social harmony," explains official Siri Tellier. But there's real concern that this policy has created a generation of spoilt children. "They are very delicate. They can't cope with setbacks," states teacher Sun Kaiyun. Demographic growth may have been stemmed but new population problems have been created. The preference for boys has led to millions of female foetuses being aborted. Now, tens of millions of Chinese men face a future with no prospect of a female partner. And that could create the social unrest the one child policy was supposed to avoid

Actually I think that china is doing the right thing in enforcing the one child policy. The country's population is unsustainable. Also I read in my Environmental Law that by 2150 the world population would be 164 billion if people continue to reproduce in the same rate.

2. Country with the highest potential military industrialization (think USA 1 month pre pearl harbor plz.. this is China present day)3. An extreme sense of nationalism rooted in over a millennium of unity and prosperity and Great Walls and music and civil service etc..Now China i know when you put these things together in your mind all your saying to yourself is.. 'Yes!! China iz vewry GUUHHD!'*warning* Imperialistic white conquer juices about to be injected into defensive, lumbering,

The difference between the thinking of China and Jayho74 is that i am a bloodthirsty White American. Right now and in the future China will continue to be the broad shoulders witch support the economic stability and prosperity of most of the world. China is largely content to only have this type of power. (THIS MAKES MY WHITE ANGLO SAXON ADRENAL GLANDS PUMP FRUSTRATION HORMONES!!!!) Simply put, in my estimation if China puts these 3 things together 1. most populous country on planet earth

China can easily afford these soldiers. China is rich right now beyond belief and in the future if they continue at there current rate of wealth/asset accumulation and the dollar does collapse as predicted.. in 10 years if one where to poke china or disturb the ground around the nest in any way, such a terrible swarm of red, hornets would be mustered I dare say an equal amount of Honest to God United States Marines could not hope to defeat them, for they would be but the honed tip ofthespear

CHINA HAS NO AMBITION. wtf!! If i'm China I keep the one child policy with a few minor differences. Every Chinese child after the first-born who is male is to be givin up at age 5 and will be considered state property. This child will be tirelessly trained and conditioned in military doctrine to be some of the most loyal, most fanatical/brave/nationalistic, straightest shooting soldiers ever to be seen in the age of gun and bomb. |
