This is the part of a series of short videos illustrating various aspects of Australian Rules Football. This video is the last few minutes of the Brisbane Lions vs Sydney Swans match played on the 18/08/2007. Of interest are the boos from the crowd when the Swans start playing keepings-off. It is a tatic used to waste time if your team is holding a slender lead close to fulltime. As the commentary team states the only way to stop this is to play man-on-man and not let your direct opponent get clear to take an easy mark.Links: http://afl.com.au/ http://afl.com.au/Portals/0/af... http://au.sports.yahoo.com/afl... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

ohh yeah alrite.i thought if 2 people from the same team go for the ball in a ruck, it is a free kick, thats what i was taught :/

This usually means a 3rd player going into a ruck contest. Usually the 2 ruckmen attempt to tap the ball to their teams favour but sometimes a 3rd player will also try & contest the ball.

what is a "third man up"?

No I dont think so. Extra-time is played in all the other finals. Although the grand final would still be replayed.

Two grand finals have been drawn: Essendon v Melbourne in 1948 and Collingwood v North Melbourne in 1977. Both times, the match went to a replay the following week, where the victors were Melbourne and North Melbourne, respectively. Now extra time is played to get a winner.

Has a grand final ever been played to a draw?

Thats what the commentary team always asks. When that starts happening the opposition should play man-on-man - don't let their opponents get clear. They are beginning to learn.

how come they don't tackle each other towards the end of the game when they are playing keepings off?
