Mario Del Monaco is one of three or four of my favourite tenors. His "Dio, mi potevi scagliar" or "Forse la soglia attinse", or "Amor ti vieta", or e.g. "L´anima ho stanca" are unrivalled. Only Domingo (mainly as Radames or Cavaradossi) or Corelli (as Chenier or Manrico) there is possible to compare with his vocal beauty... sometimes, namely in Amor ti vieta ("vieta") or Forse la soglia ("palpito", "sotto") or Lamento (phrase "il dolce sembiante" - vocal "A") are his vocals incomparable beautifull...

This reminds me of the time I played my Del Monaco record for a friend 30 years ago. 'He gives the orchestra a run for their money,' was his reaction. He certainly does.

OH MY GOSH>> and I just said Pavarotti was the centuries best.. forgetting this guy, and Bjoerling.. and who many others..oh well - I can at least stay with Pavarotti it was all very natural and easy looking - he just sang with such fluid technique.. but del Manaco.. talk about out of the ball park emotion!

Yes. Who cares. Some say Corelli was a shouter. I don't care. It takes a lot of hard work to get that good, and lets not bash them.
