o'reilly can go blank off himself and all his neocon bedfellas. This country doesn't need "a change we can believe in" as undefined as that may be, we need a lobotomizing of our established institutions - we can believe in.

Adam- I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on healthcare. As stated before it will not make it cheaper, but it will place the burden onto our government. In addition our government can't afford to pay our doctors what they're worth. People don't go to med school to make 60K a year. They do it to save lives, and have a better standard of living. Health insurance is affordable for people who make it a priority.

adam - I know, the republicans are the cause of all our problems. Too bad the dems held congress until the mid-90s so I guess you missed that. I like to bitch about our current dilemma but necessity is the mother of invention. People are going to start investing in soulutions and becoming energy independant on their own. Solar and wind are good starts that can be mounted on your roof. The govt is stupid so you can wait for them to figure it out if you want.

Adam -- as I have said before, I think govt has a role in governance which means legislation needs to be passed to allow the migration to individuals or families. I do not believe the govt should administer healthcare. This system works right now because I use it. If everybody used it, the costs would come down dramatically because there would be competition. I believe medicare, VA, and Medicaid could adopt the framework for the people who cannot afford it.

Adam - Sadam killed 2 million and up to a million died in the current conflict depending on what source you use. I appreciate the fact that you don't like war or killing but the Iraqi people have a chance to make a better future. I don't know what will happen but I believe that if given the chance, people who have the ability to choose will choose a peaceful existance. They still have a lot of work to do.

"ryanh" I believe that there are sectors in our society that should not be entrusted to for-profit corporations. Our healthcare should NOT depend on the accountants at some corporation telling their CEO that certain procedures are losing money and should no longer be covered. "Not enough profit." Can you tell me what good has come from the for profit energy companies or the pharmaceutical industry? I would nationalize all three sectors in an instant. Give me a reason to disagree. We are the govt
adamrosemead (August 29, 2008 at 6:56 am)
"ryanh" You're assuming that those at the bottom ("scum") will use a govt run healthcare program to become more irresponsible now that the cost of their misdeeds would be paid by someone else. They, of course would be a burden on society-"leeches." To prevent such a possibility universal healthcare should also involve programs to prevent unwanted pregnancies, provide drug information, etc. In other words, a good govt should invest wisely in the public good. In us, not the corporations.

windfall profit tax, jimmy carter did it and the gas shortage was on. prices on gas doubled, but if kucinich and obama get the windfall profit tax, they are going to destroy america because of high petroleum prices. |
