Emo is a very weird. It started as a deeper, more experimental twin of hardcore-punk, then it went through a weird indie phase, and now it is an unrecognizable mess of a genre. While I don't think it is really "emo", I would venture to say that it has obvious post-hardcore influences (as heard in Sink To The Beat).

ok... great idea let's stop talking about what the genre is and just enjoy the music, sorry for calling it punk. Cursive are a great band, and the only reason i know them is cuz they toured with mastodon. Laughing, Drinking, Joking, Smoking, Foreveragain13

They're pretty much mid-period emo, aren't they? After emo stopped being a type of hardcore punk but before it turned into a type of MOR radio pop.

Cursive and The Good Life are like kasher core lol thats the only way i can think to describe it but if i absolutely had to put it in a genre it would be like indie but in no wat shape or form punk
