Washington has 12.000 people regulating economy. Not enough? Bankers thought that government would never let the housing market fall, so prices would go up ad infinitum. Government promoted irresponsability and greed. It has nothing to do with "too much freedom". Society was irresponsible too living beyond their means, but it is the government who punishes savings through bad monetary policies.

They were promoted by a stupid monetary policy after dotcom bubble burst. And many of them protected by GSEs until 2005

Most of the subprime loans that are in default right now were never under the purview of any regulation whatsoever. Many of those loans we will find are out and out fraudulent. The thieves should be tapped before the taxpayer is tapped. Politicians who give them cover should be taken to task as well.

who cares whether he didn't accept his wife's death or whether it was just the truck driver's fault? I don't think it would affect his competence OR honesty as a vice-president either way.

The banking deregulation was supported and authorized by guys like Jim Leach (founder of "Republicans for Obama" and fund-raiser for Obama), Rob Rubin (former Clinton´s Secretary of the Treasury and Obama´s advisor) and Lawrence Summers (Obama´s advisor and candidate for next Secretary of Treasury). "Rob Rubin worked hard on this" (Bill Clinton, november 1999).
