Here is a case-in-point when people say 'they don't make them like they used to:' a number performed by a variety of NBC's "Family" members on their 60th Anniversary Celebration. This camp classic is a parody/homage/reworking of the song "Family" from the musical DREAMGIRLS and features Barbara Eden, Nell Carter, Charlotte Rae, Punky Brewster (Soleil Moon Frye), Alfonso Ribeiro, Marla Gibbs, and Bea Arthur. This is from NBC's 60th Anniversary Celebration, aired in 1986.

This is just the best video ever. The personalities bring back some pretty deep childhood memories, but I had no idea that this video existed! Thanks for posting.

miss this part of the 80's. how appropriate though. nell carter was slated to play effie in the original dreamgirls. while they were in workshop she left to take a soap job in cali.

And had the lead in her very own sitcom. But you're right... the only point I was making was that the NBC higher-ups merely threw here in there because she was a recognizable face, not because she could sing or knew how to sell a song, like the rest of these performers did.
