The STANAG-compatible box magazine, while relatively compact compared to other types of 5.56x45mm NATO box magazines, has often been criticized for a perceived lack of durability and a tendency to malfunction if not treated with a level of care that often cannot be afforded under combat conditions. Because STANAG 4179 is only a dimensional standard, production quality from manufacturer to manufacturer is not uniform.

There are plenty of good reasons not to use STANAG magazines though - The STANAG-compatible box magazine, while relatively compact compared to other types of 5.56x45mm NATO box magazines, has often been criticized for a perceived lack of durability and a tendency to malfunction if not treated with a level of care that often cannot be afforded under combat conditions. That's what people said of the M16 at first. I think in 20 years, we're used to guns looking like that or something similar.

The XM8 was just too good, and the government knew it. I think they wanted to adopt it but knew if they did, it would put America's oldest firearms company (Colt) out of buisness.

Yeah, I heard it's almost impossible to jam. XDBut I bet it's got a hefty price tag. |
