In a stunning upset at the 140th running of the Belmont Stakes in Elmont, NY, 4-1 odd favorite and Triple Crown contender "Big Brown" was defeated by 38-1 odd "Da'Tara." The three-year old colt was trying to become the first horse to win the Triple Crown since 1978 when "Affirmed" won the crown. In a shortened field of 9 horses, Big Brown became the first Triple Crown hopeful in history to finish in last place.

why not a triple crown of a different category? this is a classic event of 3 year olds and it is a great event BUT WHAT ABOUT A TRIPLE CROWN FOR 3+ HORSES ? AND WITH A GOOD PURSE IT WILL BRING THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS...IT WOULD BE SUPER FOR THE SPORT...I feel BB deserves another opportunity to show his greatness...Curlin too...Zenyatta...Henrythenavigator...can u imagine ???

exactly! like a lot of horses are trained to listen to the whip.. for example- near the end of the race the jockey will give the horse a tap, so they know it's time to give it all they got. it doesnt hurt them, it gives them signals. and the jockeys stirrups are up so high they can't communicate with teir leg very well

whatever I'm not going to continue this cause i don't have time. cause were arguing on a topic through the computer and were getting carried away .

Why not just "outlaw" the whip? Everyone would still be on the same playing field. What's the downside? If the horse doesn't know to run then it shouldn't win.

I would love to jump on your fat ass and "flick" you with a whip while you run.Seriously, try it yourself. Whip yourself on the neck. It's the EXACT same thing the horse feels. If I had a tumor, I'd name it Tomar.P.S. I'm not in PETA. I surprised you actually know what PETA is. I would think a person of your "smarts" would think it was bread for sub sandwiches.FOD ....please! You're waste resourses

Tomar the tumor,I can't believe just how stupid you are. The size of the mammal has nothing to do with its endings. If you whip and 500lb woman does it hurt more than whipping a 50lb girl? Take awhile...Think about it.Human nerve endings are the EXACT same as in horses, you inbred piece of coprolite. (Look it up in a dictionary...you'll have to copy and paste "coprolite" into an online dictionary. Oh, forgive me; I seriously doubt that you have the mental capacity to "cut & paste")FOD

ok fyi I didn't say they enjoy it you dumbass its a flick to them because of thier size to a human it would hurt but not a horse you fucking peta scumbag

NOT WHEN THE "shoe" on the right front of the horse came off.

On the subject of using a "whip". First of all it is not a whip(like a bullwhip, etc.),it is a stick with a looped piece of leather at the tip, When used correctly,it DOES NOT cause pain and it is used to be a signal for more speed Second, there are rules in place that will discipline a jock if he uses the stick too much. If he raises his arm above his shoulder he can be suspended. The horse racing community(of which I belong) takes many steps to protect the horses. Many of you do not know this.
