What's the Difference Between 720p and 1080i?

So my point, and my apologies for it being in two separate comments, is that 1080i has twice as many frames as 720p, but 720 is not half of 1080. so you are getting better resolution per frame on a 720p television.

True. I have a Sony ex1 camera and i film in 720p at 30p frames. When you look at a 1080i image it can almost achieve a flicker effect. 720p is 720 progressive lines of resolution per frame. When you shoot in 60i, that is 60 interlaced frames per second. or 30 progressive (if de-interlaced.) So if you look at a 1080i screen even if shot in progressive the image will still be interlaced. Which splits it into 60i again.

that's because they're using the same video source. the resolution of the TV doesn't change the resolution of the source.

you cant really tell the difference only if you like stand directly in front of the screen...and I dont wear glasses. I saw two HDTV in a store. One 720p the other 1080 running the same show and from 5 feet away you couldnt tell which was which.

there isnt really a big difference between 720p & 1080i I know this because I have 720p 32 Inch TV & my brother has a 1080i tv & both look the same
